FAQ
-
Who can be a DJ?
Any undergraduate student or graduate student at Emory University! You don’t have to have any special skills, know how to use a DJ deck, or be familiar with a mixer. We train all our DJs on our equipment, so you don’t have to have any experience coming in.
-
How can I apply to be a DJ?
Twice a year, we will open our DJ application for new DJs to apply—once in August, and again in December. Fill out the Google Form that will appear on the homepage of our website when it’s available. Follow us on Instagram, join our organization on The Hub, and check our website regularly so you don’t miss it.
-
How does the DJ application process work?
We want to see that you have a thoughtful idea for your weekly or biweekly radio show, put effort and thought into your application, and will be an active and committed member of the WMRE community. Anyone can be a DJ—we don’t require that you have any experience with music or radio to apply!
-
What if I want to get involved with WMRE, but I don't want to be a DJ?
There are lots of options for folks who don’t want to have a show but would like to be more involved in college radio. Our zine, Frequency, is an artistic mashup of DIY and pop culture that is always accepting submission online and holds events in the Cox ArtsLab about twice per month. Check the events page for zine events!
When our Exec Board application is open, apply for a leadership position. You might be good at finance, business, marketing, social media, arts and crafts, or technology. There’s an option for every interest and skill set on exec!
-
How do I listen to WMRE?
WMRE is an internet-only radio station, which means that we stream 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to anywhere in the world with an internet connection. Listen right here at www.wmre.live on your laptop or smartphone.
-
Do DJs have to play music in order to have a show?
No! Some of our DJs host weekly or biweekly podcasts, talk about pop culture or sports, read books on the air, or act out radio plays!
