Pantha du Prince and the Bell Laboratory - 'Elements of Light'
Pantha du Prince and the Bell LaboratoryElements of LightRough TradeElements of Light is a brilliant celebration of acoustic percussion supported by Pantha du Prince’s iconic house/techno sound and thus is the inverse of his critically-acclaimed 2010 album Black Noise — a largely electronic album supplemented with the instruments that would become central in Elements. Front and center of du Prince’s concept album, which loosely explores the phenomenon of light, are the chimes. It is unclear how the album’s 5 tracks are meant to illustrate things like photons and spectral splits, as their names suggest, but the more important elements of a concept album are all in place: themes, variations, motifs, and a clear progression of musical thought. —Max Ashton[soundcloud url="http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/75464519" params="" width=" 100%" height="166" iframe="true" /]
