Saint Motel at the Buckhead Theatre
A band named the Kolars opened; I hadn’t listened to any of their music beforehand, but I was pleasantly surprised by their high energy and originality. The duo performed an entertaining combination of tap dancing, twang, and glam.
I entered the concert with one song in mind: “For Elise”. It is easily one of my favorite songs of all time, along with the iconic classics “Born Again”, “Van Horn”, “My Type” and of course “Sisters”. No matter what your favorite song was, Saint Motel probably played it, and everyone in the audience sang their heart out (especially the guy standing behind me.)
Not only was every song they played an absolute bop, but the band’s energy and creativity really shined in this particular show. Saint Motel’s tour, titled the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack due to the band member’s experiences in film school, was aptly named. The concert’s song list was broken up by thematic costume changes including aliens, astronauts, etc. The lighting was also amazing. The band members, especially the lead singer AJ Jackson, bantered with an unnamed narrator at the show and also an alien named Rob. The brass musicians stole the show, playing the trumpet and saxophone - it was by far one of my favorites parts of the concert.
Saint Motel gave its audience a cinematic experience that will be hard to forget.
