Spoon - They Want My Soul

It’s usually hard for a band to keep producing good, original music after eight albums, but Spoon doesn’t seem to have that problem. They Want My Soul is pretty much the perfect album. The album still retains the classic Spoon sound, as Daniel’s distinct voice and the punk vibes are still there, but there are also definitely new aspects to their music. The guitar riffs are trance-inducing and the layering of sounds is mesmerizing. Even “Do You”, a song that channels Spoon’s punk sound, starts off with airy and soft vocals. The catchiest, and the most original song on the album is probably “Inside Out”, whose atmosphere is incredibly easy to get lost in. Spoon ends the album with “New York Kiss”, a powerful song that could get anyone pumped up for anything. It’s that “walking down the street ready to conquer the day” song. They Want My Soul, Spoon’s eighth album, fully lives up to Spoon’s reputation.
