James Ferraro - 'Sushi'
James FerraroSushiHippos in TanksThe hyper-modern social awareness and commentary of James Ferraro’s 2011 efforts, Far Side Virtual and its EP Condo Pets, gives way to an only slightly more conventional species of electronic music in his latest album Sushi. It retains a degree of Ferraro’s characteristic strangeness that's spun with an altogether foreign though immediately familiar funk most likely inspired by recent electro/hip-hop fusionists. In fact, the combination of these elements causes a sort of uncanny valley; to listen to Sushi is to walk on the obscure peripheries of what could be a SBTRKT album and look in at the dark forms — only just recognizable and sometimes terrifyingly so. —Max Ashton[soundcloud url="http://api.soundcloud.com/playlists/2730341" params="" width=" 100%" height="450" iframe="true" /]
